That’s right! It’s twenty years to the day since Dr Ivo Robotnik made his debut performance in Sonic the Hedgehog 1 in 1991. SEGA have not forgotten this, and there’s some exciting news as a result of it! Well, I think they are under the impression that they are celebrating That Hedgehog’s debut, but we all know that besides flickies, the good doctor was the only other main Sonic character who appeared on that same day!!

First up, to celebrate 20 years of Eggman (oh, Sonic too, I suppose ), there is a NEW game coming out: Sonic Generations! It’s a kind of “Sonic Through The Ages” game. Of course, if it’s Sonic’s past and present, it’s also Eggman’s!

So far, we’ve has one small sighting of Eggman is this screenshot of a boss shown at E3. This is a Nintendo DS screenshot, so it’s low-res, but look! Classic collars! So we get to see Eggman in his classic form as well as Sonic!! How will he look on other levels and systems? We don’t know yet, but things are looking good! The boss shown is a rendition of the final “Launch Base Zone” boss from Sonic 3. Here are a couple of screenshots of Green Hill Zone, and City Escape from this upcoming game:

Sonic Generations is set for release in November of this year.

Also coming: Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Release date TBC).

Jazwares are to release a range of new Sonic collectables including a choice of badniks from Eggman’s ever widening army (EggRobo from Sonic 3 and Knuckles, for example!!) as well as a Classic Eggman, and a Modern Eggman, along with a host of other items and characters from Sonic history! These figures may be around as early as August, according to http://www.toywiz.com/ and others.

There’s also an upcoming site that will reportedly sell all things Sonic, (including Eggman gear, hopefully!) It will launch at  http://www.sonicmerchandise.com/

 Look at this great classic-style Eggman plush. He appears to have been made recently, and says “Amusement only” on the label, along with the manufacturer’s name: “PMS International” (based in the UK). He has a great quality feel and is really cuddly. He’s also quite big – 12 inches tall ! A great find – so keep an eye open if you go to any amusement parks with prizes or UFO catchers/claw machines.

Eggman fans invited to Eggman's Theme Park!!

Is that not just the most exciting thing you’ve seen in your time as an Eggman Fan? It looks brilliant – so read the little information that has been released and watch the short (Eggman-less) teaser! Guess who’s announcing and broadcasting by “borrowing” the  Sonic Blognik???

Eggman has his new style look – with millitary jacket. I’m sure we all love both looks and agree that he does look good in Sonic 4, but I would have loved to see his big yellow collars again. Ahh well – Here is our first peek!

That’s right, Eggman and Sonic fans alike! SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4 is here after a 16 year wait!! A new mini-site has been launched and reveals that there are just two characters – Sonic is one, the other is locked.  Sonic’s Bio reveals:

“Our Legendary hero returns! With the Death Egg finally destroyed, and Angel Island back in the sky, Sonic decides it’s time to take a break and heads off to explore a new territory on his own. However unbeknownst to Sonic, Eggman has also survived their last encounter, and has begun taking measures to rid himself of our hero. Armed with his signature Speed, super Spin Dash – and powerful Homing Attack, Sonic is ready for an all-new adventure!”

And so… Eggman is confirmed in the game! He appears to be the main villain! He is back after the defeat of the legendary Death Egg! WHAT COULD  be more exciting for fans of Robotnik and Sonic!?

The one burning question now is – Is Eggman classic  or new style? Or different again? Sonic has his green eyes and longer legs (New Style) so that could mean a new style Eggman – but not necessarily… We shall have to excitedly wait and see!

Our final note is that the game is for Xbox live arcade and WiiWare. Not for a handheld. This means great resolution graphics to enjoy 2D Sonic and Eggman in a new and exciting way!

However, it does NOT seem like Eggman is playable in this one. But, will he be in his rightful place as the main villain? I hope so!

The game will be out in the UK on 16/10/2009 (That’s Friday!) for Nintendo Wii and DS. Put that date in your diaries! Or just remember, when it’s that close.

Sega have just posted a new, ambiguous teaser trailer for a new “2D adventure” and as if gold rings, drilling sounds, jumping sounds, and a winged ring shilouette weren’t enough, It’s called NEEDLEMOUSE for goodness sake! That can only mean one thing – THAT HEDGEHOG! But where the blue one goes, a certain doctor should not be too far away – and I don’t mean Doctor Who!

So how does Doctor Eggman fit into the puzzle? If at all *shivver*? Will he be new style, or maybe classic style? Will the game be 3d, but with a fixed camera angle, or completely 2D and drawn? all this reamains to be announced by SEGA – who seems to be back on form with their original logo and SE-GA jingle, and it’s excrutiatingly exciting!!

It looks like they are bringing back the fabulous feel of CLASSIC Sonic, which I really think is the thing to do. Not “moving with the times”, but keeping it a pure, true to itself media property. I think there will be more fans if they do that. Then it’s not pretending to be anything.

And did you SEE that MARVELOUS Egg-Ship car! Oh! this really looks like something special! HA HA!
